A
watch-night worship is held at midnight
between 31 December and 1 January, marking
the beginning of the Church year. Advent of
the New Year is announced to the
congregation with a “Fanfare” sounded on
bugles, by Pakistan Rangers’ buglers.
“Fanfare” is a tune played exclusively to
welcome kings and heads of states.
Pakistan Rangers are cooperating with St
Andrew’s Presbyterian Church since 31
December 1999 at the change of the
millennium, when their buglers first
performed in the watch-night service. This
activity has become a tradition and is
looked forward to by numerous Christians in
Lahore.
The buglers are arranged by Lt Col Ernest
Shams who also preaches during the midnight
service.
